Abraham Lincoln was an excellent man who achieved many important things during his lifetime. His nickname was Honest Abe because he was truthful in everything he said and did. Some of his strong qualities were: humility, empathy, perseverance, courage and leadership.
Abe married Mary Todd from Kentucky. They had three sons. Abraham was the first president with a beard and was known for wearing a tall black hat.
“You cannot fail if you resolutely determine that you will not.”
Lincoln said this to help people believe they will not fail if they don’t give up. In Abe’s life this was true. He is most famous for stopping the spread of slavery and delivering the world famous speech called The Gettysburg Address.
Lincoln wanted people to learn about the men who died for America’s freedom and to call on people to protect the land and sea. He was a war leader and sent supplies to union troops. This shows his kindness.
On January 1st, 1863, Lincon issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed many slaves within the confederacy. Some of the free slaves returned to their owner. Some got an education and others got jobs.
Abe was 16th president of the United States of America until he was assassinated on April 14th, 1865, at Ford Theater. He died a martyr because he wanted to end slavery and some people did not like that.
His body was carried to Springfield where he was buried. Hundreds of thousands of people honored him for his humility, empathy, perseverance, courage and leadership.
Abraham Lincoln inspires me to never give up on my life. He told his soldiers to never stop fighting no matter what. From my point of view, he was a good guy because he stopped the spread of slavery and helped the soldiers.
