<1 gram/ cm3: The density at which an object can float in water.
As I gather my supplies, my one goal lingers between my thoughts: defeat density. A floating paper boat sails through the water finding its path amidst the chaos, urbane and harmonious. I pick up my construction paper while simultaneously glancing at my screen of instructions.
Construction paper is dense causing added weight with a potential for sinkage. With every object at risk of leakage, one false decision could jeopardize the composition; to choose the right objects, to crease the correct spots, and to fold at the right step.
As I make decisions of my own, I declare war on density.
I constantly battle different aspects of my life tugging every corner of my head to the tips of my hair. Spontaneous decisions dictate every outcome, from consequences to successes. The chaos of life won’t be forgiving. Though the storm may cause a downpour on my innocent boat, bipolar weather is temporary and craft is evergreen.
Creasing my last fold, I gently nudged my boat along the water crossing my fingers. Alas, my boat was engulfed by water reduced to nothing but a title of collateral damage in my war against density. Not every boat will sail, but every year I will continue to keep trying, chasing for that balance.
It may take a lifetime to build my boat, and another to keep it afloat, but I will defeat density for there is a path calling to be ventured.
